What exactly is the Halo story?

I looked around on YouTube and there is a lot of videos dedicated to telling the story. Only problem is they do it with the cutscenes from the game. Is there any narration of the story? Something with more story detail other than what the games offer? What exactly is the Halo story?

Most popular game series have accompanying novels to help flesh out their stories. On the 360 I know off the top of my head the Halo, Gears of War, and Mass Effect all have novels that help better explain their stories.
Yeah but I wish GameTrailers did a rectrospective for Halo.
Oh now don't tell me you're too lazy to read! I can't speak for the Halo novels since I haven't read any of them yet, but the Mass Effect and Gears of War novels are quite entertaining and give you a lot more insight on the characters and the universe in which those games take place.
