I'm planning at picking up an Xbox 360 Pro, hopefully as early as this weekend. I've done my research and it appears that as long as a I get a systemmanufactured August 6, 2008 or later, Lot 8031 andup, Team CSON and with a power rating of 12,1 ampsI will have the new Jasper model. When I stopped byBest Buy the other day I believe they had one Xbox from August last year and one from November, so hopefully I am right and at leastone will be a Jasper so I can pick it up.Anyway, I'm trying to decide what else I need to get with it. I'm thinking of just getting it from Best Buy so I can grab everything at once (unless there are better options) I am already thinking of getting a wireless adapter, I have rechargeable batteries so will be good to go for a little while and I don't need an extra controller at this point. So is than anything else you suggest to get with the Xbox, I'm deliberating if I need an extended warranty, cooler, etc. Thanks for any help! What to purchase with Xbox 360
extended warranty is a MUST, cooler is a MUST NOT. the wireless adapter is overpriced, i recommend an ethernet cord as your first way of connection, and if ure not using the rechargable battery packs, then thats all you should needWhat to purchase with Xbox 360
I have heard many people say that the intercoolers are worthless plus you are getting a Jasper I doubt you will need it and get a subscription to xbox live if you want to play games online.

lol forgot about that, perhaps the most important thing

Thanks. I was thinking a Warranty is a good idea, even if Microsoft is good with repairs it just seems like it is really needed. I will skip the cooler, just wasn't sure if it was a good thing or not. I hate to pay for the wireless adapter, but unfortunately I think I will have to get it because my router is too far away for a wired connection. So does the controller use special batteries, I thought I read that you could use any battery, if not I will have to pick up some type of charger.

Thanks, glad I checked first. I plan to get Xbox Live, but not right away, I'm going to give it a try first to see if I even use it, but thanks for reminding me!

Thanks again for all your replies!
It uses normal batteries I bought a charger at Walmart for around $16 and got four batteries with it. Also when you first create a Gamertag (Account) you get a free month of xbox live so you can try it out.

Perfect, that is what I thought. I have tons of rechargeable batteries and a couple chargers, so for now I will just stick with those and get something else down the road. I will probably wait a little while for the wireless adapter and just use the system for now and then add that once I get board with the games I have. I doubt most of the games I will get at first will have much online anyway and it will save me some money up front. Thanks again!
No problem enjoy your xbox 360!
just get 360 made in 09 to be safe wouldn't buy no system that as been sitting on the shelf for 8 months dont need no intercooler worst thing u can buy for 360
get gears of war 2 halo 3
cod4 if u havn't played yet or just wait for nov the wireless adpater ahh i say if u close to the router then ok or unless u force to. ethernet cable ftw.
rechargeable battery's well some are good some are not that great. if your dont last long in your camera don't think it last in your controller get a recharge pack by microsoft not the off brand
Don't get the wireless adapter... waste of money. Just buy a long network cable. Get Fallout 3, it will keep you busy for a long time. For multiplayer, I suggest CoD4. And don't get battery packs, just buy energizer rechargeable batteries

I will have to try another Best Buy to see if they have anything from 2009. I checked my nearest and they only have the 2008's. Thanks for the info, definitely a huge help!

Unfortunately I have to get a wireless adapter or I would pretty much be running an ethernet cord through my entire house, which doesn't appeal to me. Thanks for the ideas!

I just remembered two other questions I had before my new arrival :D There were two things I read and I just want to confirm:1. Is it correct that the Xbox is safest in a vertical position? I thought I read this was the best way to keep it cool, but couldn't quite remember. If that is the case I'm going to have to rethink where I'm putting it. I have a TV stand my TV sits inside of and then it has doors that close. I was deliberating whether or not I wanted to put it in there because of the doors (the back has a wide opening where it is cut out) but there is a space on the top for a DVD player and stuff, so I was thinking about putting it there, or putting it on top of the stand, but either way I was wanting to put it horizontally, but if vertical is the safest way I can do that as well.2. I thought I read that Microsoft doesn't recommend using a surge protector with the Xbox? Is this correct? I would be really nervous not to use one, especially since the area I'm in now can get 5000+ lightning strikes in an hour, so protection against lightning is really important. I was just wondering if not using a surge protector is best and if so, why? Thanks again and sorry for all the questions
When you create your gamertag on your console you get a free one month trial of Gold Xbox Live, so you don't need to buy a subscription card right away. This trial starts when you create your gamertag on your console. It doesn't work for gamertags created on xbox.com.
For Horizontal / Vertical - there is no best position. Just make sure that whichever way you position it you don't block any of the air vents, and you allow a good flow of fresh air around it. If you have it vertical one of the biggest vents is in the bottom, so don't place it on carpet or that blocks most of the vent. Horizontal doesn't have that issue.
Personally I prefer Horizontal, not so much from a cooling point of view, but it makes it so much harder for anyone to knock over than standing vertically. Obviously you don't want it getting knocked over at all, but vertical is easier to fall over, and if it happens while a disc is in, it pretty much ruins the disc and may damage your DVD drive as well.
MS don't recommend using a surge protector, but you know your area better than MS. If you get a lot of lightning and use surge protectors for everything, then use it for your 360 as well. But probably best not to run lots of other devices off the same surge protector.

Thanks. I'm going to wait until I get the wireless adapter to create a gamer tag. That way I don't have to get the adapter right away and I will have another month to decide if I like Xbox Live.
Glad to hear it doesn't really matter which position. Even if I decide to put it on top of the TV stand I don't really want it to be standing up, not only because it would look odd, but also because it seems a little more risky, as you mentioned. The stand is designed to hold a DVD player or something like it, but I'm thinking it is probably safer to leave it on the outside so that it isn't enclosed in anyway.
Everything I own uses a surge protector and the builder of my house actually put several specially designed outlets in that are supposed to prevent issues with the lightning, unfortunately there aren't any where I want to put the xbox, so I think I will have to use a surge protector. My current surge protector has my TV, my MP3 dock, my coaxial cable and once I find the power cord it will have my SNES as well. I will probably hook up another surge protector and use it for just the xbox.
Thanks for all the help!

Yeah, I know that the Jasper isn't going to fix everything and all systems will have their problems. But, I figure getting a Jasper with an extended warranty is my best bet. I was a little worried about getting a PS3 at first, but figured my odds were a little better. I know I'm not completely safe against problems with a Jasper, but I just want to give it my best shot and a warranty will just make me feel a little safe.
